Phyllis and Milton Berg Family Respite Care Grant
The Phyllis and Milton Berg Family Respite Care Grant helps alleviate the cost of respite care for families caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. The grants are awarded to AFA’s nonprofit member organizations, which must utilize the funds to provide scholarships to clients (individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia and/or their families) with financial or other needs. The scholarships are for respite services, such as social model adult day programs, in-home aides, companion care or overnight respite, at the grantee’s own organization.
The grants are named to honor the deceased parents of Barry E. Berg, who has served on AFA’s board of trustees since 2004 and has chaired several of AFA’s “Care on the Fairways” golf outings to support the organization’s programs and services. Both of Berg’s parents passed away in 2009: his mother, Phyllis, had Alzheimer’s disease, and his father, Milton, was a devoted caregiver.
This grant is offered in the spring and fall of each year; for consideration, applications must be postmarked by:
Spring cycle – June 1
Fall cycle – December 1
