Alzheimer's Foundation of America to Host Free Dementia Care Training

NEW YORK, NY—The Alzheimer's Foundation of America (AFA) in collaboration with the Fort Washington Houses Services for the Elderly will host a free dementia care training on March 26 about the safe and effective care of persons with Alzheimer's disease and all other types of dementia.

The training is part of AFA's efforts to raise the bar on dementia care in the United States and is offered by AFA's training division, Dementia Care Professionals of America. (DCPA).

It will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Fort Washington Houses, 99 Fort Washington Ave., New York .

The program is geared towards home health aides, personal care aides, nurses, social workers, family caregivers, and respite volunteers.and will include a DVD presentation, discussion and examination.

Attendees who pass the exam will earn the status of AFA Qualified Dementia Care Provider (QDCP) and become members of DCPA. In addition, nurses and social workers who become qualified will earn six continuing education credits.

The event is provided with support from the New York State Department of Health Division of Chronic Disease Prevention and Adult Health.
