Alzheimer’s Foundation of America Offers Grant for Innovative Service

NEW YORK, NY—As local non-profit organizations continue to seek alternative funding sources to keep their programs and services going, the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) today announced that it will be accepting applications for a $25,000 grant to support an innovative program or service that improves the lives of those affected by Alzheimer’s disease or a related illness.

The grant is becoming more critical as the incidence of Alzheimer’s disease continues to climb nationwide, and individuals with the disease and their families are in growing need of supportive services from communities across America.

This marks the sixth straight year that AFA will award The Brodsky Grant, which honors AFA’s chairman, Bert E. Brodsky, and his wife, Muriel.

“AFA is looking to recognize an exemplary organization that has broken the mold and developed a best practice to better meet the needs of the dementia community,” said Eric J. Hall, AFA’s president and chief executive officer.

The Brodsky Grant funds a program that is innovative, meets the greatest need, and can be successfully put into practice and later replicated in other communities.

Among some of the past recipients of The Brodsky Grant, organizations have used the funds to provide mental and physical stimulation utilizing high-technology and low-technology tools, and to develop a documentary about individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and Down syndrome.

In addition to The Brodsky Grant, AFA awards grants twice a year, in the spring and fall, to multiple AFA member organizations for programs and services that improve quality of life for individuals with dementia and their families.

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America is a national nonprofit organization headquartered in New York and made up of 1,200 member organizations that provide hands-on programs to meet the educational, emotional, practical and social needs of families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses.
