ALZHEIMER’S FOUNDATION OF AMERICA NAMES CAROL STEINBERG PRESIDENT
Long-Time Organization Executive Takes Reins as Care Needs Continue to Grow
NEW YORK (May 28, 2013) – The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) Board Chairman Bert E. Brodsky announced today that Carol Steinberg has been appointed president of the national nonprofit organization, which is dedicated to optimal care for individuals with dementia and their families, advocacy and research.
Steinberg helped build AFA into a leading national organization, serving as its executive vice president from the time of its founding. Since February 2013, she functioned as acting chief executive officer; the search for a permanent CEO is ongoing.
“It is with great pride that I announce Carol Steinberg’s appointment as president of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America,” said Brodsky. “She has made significant contributions to this organization since its inception. I am confident that her executive leadership abilities, keen insight into the needs of the dementia population, and intense passion for the cause will propel AFA’s breadth of services to the next level.”
“With the ever-growing number of people affected by Alzheimer’s disease, there has never been a more critical need for AFA’s services,” he added.
Steinberg has played an integral role in AFA’s development and implementation of national initiatives, such as the organization’s hallmark annual National Memory Screening Day. She also has served as editor-in-chief of care ADvantage, the nation’s first magazine specifically for caregivers of people with dementia.
Headquartered in New York, AFA provides myriad education and care-related programs services for people with dementia and their families nationwide, and training for healthcare professionals. Among its core services are a toll-free hot line, staffed by licensed social workers; monthly educational teleconferences; an award-winning teen-focused division, AFA Teens; and care ADvantage, the free quarterly magazine for caregivers. National initiatives include AFA’s signature event, National Memory Screening Day, which takes place this year on November 19; and advocacy, which has helped influence changes in the Alzheimer’s disease landscape, such as the development of the historic “National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease” and inclusion of detection of cognitive impairment in the Medicare Annual Wellness Exam.
