Second Wind Dreams
Second Wind Dreams® (SWD) is an international, nonprofit organization committed to changing the perception of aging through the fulfillment of dreams and educational programs that help caregivers understand the physical and mental challenges facing those with Dementia. Founded in 1997 by geriatric specialist P.K. Beville, SWD is recognized as the first in the nation to focus on enhancing the quality of life for elders and changing society's perception of seniors by making dreams come true. Affiliated with more than 500 elder care communities across the country, SWD has made thousands of dreams come true for seniors.
SWD is also home to the Virtual Dementia Tour Series™, an interactive project that is currently used worldwide to help sensitize people to what it might be like to live with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. This sensitivity training has resulted in better care and, again, changes the perception of aging.

AFA Sleeping Dreamers Project
When two care-focused organizations team up…
AFA and SWD have teamed up to offer AFA Sleeping Dreamers - a joint program designed to make the dreams of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses a reality.
Members of both AFA and SWD may apply for fulfillment of an AFA Sleeping Dream at www.secondwind.org. The dream application will require stipulations of the type of dream that is requested along with a brief summary of the dream and all budget details. Sleeping Dreams will only encompass dreams that allow the dreamer to relive a past experience or fulfill a dream that the dreamer talks about to the family or staff. AFA and SWD will grant a minimum of two dreams per month.
Collaborate with us to fulfill dreams!
Become members of both AFA and SWD to be eligible* for dream fulfillment through this AFA grant-funded project-at half the cost of each group's regular membership dues. Both AFA members and associate members may participate in this program.
For details on other benefits of joining SWD, click here.
*Dreams will be funded through a competitive application process.
