Second Wind Dreams

Second Wind Dreams® was founded by geriatric specialist P.K. Beville in 1997 as a grassroots effort to bring awareness to our elders by making their dreams come true. Through fulfilling dreams and offering innovative educational opportunities to caregivers and communities, the nonprofit organization seeks to change the perception and experience of aging, empowering elders to age with dignity, hope and joy.

Making dreams come true helps all involved—the community, the family, the caregivers and, most of all, the elder. Second Wind Dreams focuses on individuals living in eldercare communities or any facet of long-term care such as hospice or home health. Second Wind Dreams provides volunteers and facilities that join the organization with a how–to manual, which includes everything from forms to specifics on how to weave a dream.

Second Wind Dreams is also home to the Virtual Dementia Tour Series™, an interactive project that is currently used worldwide to help sensitize people to what it might be like to live with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia. This sensitivity training has resulted in better care and, again, changes the perception of aging.

In addition to fulfilling thousands of dreams, Second Wind Dreams® has built an award-winning program that includes training and support for “Dreamweavers,” educational programs for eldercare professionals, a quarterly newsletter, a Web site and ongoing publicity efforts. The Second Wind Dreams® program is delivered primarily through volunteer efforts.
