Octogenarian “supermovers” who walk briskly have a far lower risk of cognitive impairment and decline than their slower peers, a study suggests.
Scientists from the Renaissance School of Medicine in Stony Brook, New York, gave 4,000 adults with an average age of 84 a walking test to determine the speed of their gait. After four years, the team followed up with the patients and gave them cognitive performance tests and physical brain scans.
